Who Are We?
Fruta Fresca is owned and operated by the mother-daughter team of Nicole Proom and Susan Doyle; it is the wholesale arm of our retail business, Lazy Susan's.
Lazy Susan's opened in 2001, initially as a single store in the trendy Main Street area of Vancouver, Canada. A second store, in Victoria, opened in 2007.We have since closed the Vancouver store while we look for a larger location.The focus at Lazy Susan's is to combine a love of nostalgia and vintage with a commitment to new and fabulous products for the modern urban market.
We discovered that it was very difficult to source affordable products to meet our focus, particularly products which are made in North America and good to our planet.
We know that other retail businesses share our focus, so we decided to form Fruta Fresca as a way to help you to meet that gap in the marketplace.
Our Approach
Our wholesale products reflect our approach to retailing. They are ecofriendly, high quality, made as close to home as possible, fun, and affordable. Specifically:
- We design the products ourselves
- We have personally visited where they are made to satisfy ourselves that they are produced responsibly. Consequently, we do not purchase products made outside of North America.
- All products are sucessfully test-marketed in our retail stores.
- We stand behind the quality of the products we sell. Since many of the products are hand-made, they reflect the unique variations that you do not find in factory-produced items. This is both their charm and their intrinsic value.
- Our pricing allows us a modest return for the time and energy put into producing the product, while allowing you a reasonable return. We try to price everything to reflect affordability.
- We love things that are colourful, joyful, and whimsical and this is reflected in what we carry.
